Instruction For Authors

1. Qualification as authors

  1. 1. The author of the paper must be a member of the Korean Environmental Sciences Society (hereinafter referred to as “KENSS”), and at least 60% of all authors must be regular members of KENSS who have paid the annual fee. However, the first author and the corresponding author must be members of KENSS who have paid the annual fee.
  2. 2. In the case of an accelerated paper, all the authors must be regular members of KENSS who have paid the annual fee. The contribution of an accelerated paper is limited to one per quarter.

2. Content of Manuscript

The manuscripts to be published in the Journal of Environmental Science International (hereinafter referred to as “the Journal") must be related to academic research fields ofKENSS (environmental policy, environmental economy, natural environment, and environmental pollutions of air, water, soil, and waste). Furthermore, the paper must not have beenpreviously published or is not under consideration for publication in any other journals (including magazines). If the submitted paper is abridged version or part of a dissertation,it must be specified at the bottom of the first page of the paper and undergo an examination process according to the regulations. In addition, authors of the paper must observe the research ethics regulations.

3. Forms of Publication

1) Original article

It must include original research results, facts and conclusions with academic value.

2) Technical note

It must present a short result or experience gained from environmental practice. The format must follow the format of the original article.

3) Short Communication

It can exchange opinions on the experience gained from environmental practices or simple research results. The format must follow the format of the original article.

4) Review

It must be submitted in accordance with a request from the editorial board in principle. The format must follow the format of the original article, and no abstract is required.

4. Review Process

The editorial board of KENSS decides acceptance or rejection and the order of publication after deliberation. The editorial board examines the consistencyof the manuscript with the title, suitability of the research content, the necessity of the research, the appropriateness of the hypothesis proving method,and agreement between the research results and the conclusions, and may request the author to make necessary corrections, supplement or delete parts of the manuscript.If the author does not submit the revised manuscript within 40 days, the manuscript will be deemed not to be published and the manuscript will be rejected.The rejected manuscript will be returned to the author along with a statement of reasons. However, if the revision of the manuscript takes longer than 40 days,the author must ask for the consent of the editorial board within the corresponding period. If the author wants to revise or resubmit the paper after this period, he or she must submit it as a new paper.

5. Language

The manuscript can be written in Korean or English. In the case of Korean manuscript, the use of Hangul is encouraged, but Chinese characters and originallanguage may be used to prevent confusions such as names of people, places, and magazines. The captions of tables and figures must be written in English,as Table 1, Fig. 1, and so on. In the captions for tables and figures, only the first letter of the sentence must be capitalized except for proper nouns,abbreviations, special symbols, etc. No period must be added at the end of the statement for table captions, but a period must be added at the end of thefigure captions. All references must be written in English. When an abbreviation is used, the abbreviation must be written in parentheses when it is usedfor the first time before the abbreviation is used elsewhere. However, except for proper nouns, chemical terms, etc., only the first letter of each word must be capitalized.

6. Submission of Manuscript

The manuscript must be submitted on the homepage of the KENSS along with a checklist of compliance with the research ethics regulations and a submission card after editing the manuscript in a single column on the A4 paper size including the figures and tables. The examination fee (50,000 KRW per paper, 200,000 KRW for accelerated paper) must be deposited to the account number specified on the submission card. When the submitted manuscript is approved first by the editorial board for compliance with the submission regulations and format, the committee will appoint a panel of judges and commission them for an examination. A submitted manuscript that does not comply with the regulations may be returned with a statement of reasons. If payment of the examination fee is confirmed, examination will be started.

7. Composition

In the case of Korean manuscripts, the title, the author name, and author’s affiliation must be written in Korean, followed by English title, author name,author's affiliation and address. After that, the English abstract, introduction, research method (materials and methods, etc.), results, discussion (or results and discussion),conclusions, acknowledgments, and references must be written in this order. In the case of English manuscripts, the title, author name, author's affiliation and address, abstract,introduction, research method (materials and methods, etc.), results, discussion (or results and discussion), conclusions, acknowledgments, and references must be writtenin English in this order. In the bottom left corner of the cover, the name, address, postal code, telephone number and e-mail address of the corresponding author must be written in English.

8. Main Author and Co-authors

If there is only one researcher, he or she is the main author. If there are two or more researchers, the first author is the main author and the other authors are co-authors. The corresponding author is the responsible author. An asterisk (*) is marked at the top right of the corresponding author's name, and the name, affiliation, phone number, and e-mail address must be written in English at the bottom left of the first page of the paper.

9. Title, Author and Affiliation

The title must a concise expression of the paper’s content. The authors’ names must be connected by '•' when there are more than two authors in Korean. In the case of a foreign language, the first letter of the first name and last name should be capitalized, followed by lower case letters. In the case of other co-authors, the superscripts 1), 2), etc. must be marked in the upper right corner of the researcher's name, and their affiliations must be stated.

10. English Abstract

The English abstract must summarize the purpose, methods, results, discussion and conclusions of the research in English, and 10 or less keywords must be listed at the end of the abstract. The English abstract should be must be within 300 words in front of the main text, in one paragraph in such a manner to clearly inform the main contents of the paper. However, references and abbreviations must not be used.

11. Main Text

The sequence of the contents must be indicated in Arabic numbers as shown in the following example.

12. Citations

  1. ① The last name of the author (or authors) in English should be listed followed by the year of publication for both Korean and English manuscript.
    (Example) With the recent improvement of the quality of life, interest in the environment has been increasing (Hong, 2010).
  2. ② If there are two or less authors, write all authors.
    1. 1) In case of one author: Hong (2010)
    2. 2) In case of two authors: Hong and Kim (2010)
  3. ③ If there are more than three authors, write only the first author, followed by 'et al.' in both Korean and English papers

  4. ④ If multiple papers by the same author are cited simultaneously, write the author name only once and insert ',' between the years.

  5. ⑤ If the author is an institution, write the name in the same way as described above if the name of the institution is short. If the name of the institution is too long, write the abbreviation in parentheses after the full name when it is first mentioned and use the abbreviation after that.
  6. ⑥ When citing papers with the same author and the same publication year, write a lowercase alphabet, a, b, c, and so on after the year.

13. References

13.1 Compositions

  1. ① All references cited in the main text must be written in the references section.
  2. ② References must be written in English only.
  3. ③ The order of references is alphabetical order of the first author's name. If the names of authors are identical, they must be listed in order of publication year.
  4. ④ All the authors or editors of the cited documents must be written regardless of the number of authors. In the case of research report, write only the responsible researcher.
  5. ⑤ Abbreviations of periodicals must be written in accordance with Chemical Abstracts.
  6. ⑥ For the editor, write (ed.) after the name. If there are two or more editors, write (eds.) after the names.

13.2 Writing

  8. ⑧ Report (government document): author (name of institute if there is no author), year of publication, report name, type of report (number), research institute (write in author position if the author does not exist), location, country (if overseas).

14. Units

The SI units (m, kg, s, K, etc.) must be used in principle. The proper nouns and technical terms must be written in the original language and the numbers in Arabic numbers.

15. Submission of Manuscript

Manuscripts can be submitted at any time, and the date of submission is the date on which the manuscript arrived at KENSS (or its website). The submitted manuscript will not be returned to the author.

16. Acceptance of Manuscript

The acceptance of manuscripts is determined by the paper examination regulations of KENSS, and the publication order of papers will be identical to the order of acceptance in principle. However, the editorial board may adjust the order in the same publication.

17. Editing of Manuscript

The authors are responsible for the first editing of manuscript and the editorial board can edit the manuscript after that. Changes of content during editing should be avoided as much as possible.

18. Publication Charge

  1. 1. 40,000 KRW per page must be paid for an unpublished paper in a regular conference of KENSS.
  2. 2. 30,000 KRW per page must be paid for a published paper in a regular conference of KENSS.
  3. 3. In the case of an unpublished paper in a regular conference of KENSS, an additional fee of 50,000 KRW must be paid in addition to the total publication charge.
  4. 4. In the case of a published paper that contains acknowledgement in a regular conference of KENSS, an additional fee of 30,000 KRW must be paid in addition to the total publication charge. However, in this case, it is necessary to submit documents to prove that the paper was published in a regular conference of KENSS.
  5. 5. In the case of an accelerated paper, 120,000 KRW per page must be paid, and an additional 200,000 KRW must be paid for a paper containing acknowledgment. However, the maximum publication charge of the paper will be 1,500,000 KRW.

19. Copyright

The copyright of the published paper belongs to KENSS.
